The best thing about working for Ruby is the type of
projects they are involved with. Throughout my college career,
I wanted to work for a large AE firm, but after spending one
summer with Ruby, my plans have changed. I experienced a side
of structural engineering that I did not know existed. On every
project, I learned something new. I was trusted with real projects
and contributed to solving difficult problems. The engineering
staff was always there to teach and help me. From the beginning,
I was welcomed into the family environment, and never treated
as 'just an intern.'

As an intern at Ruby, I really got to see how classroom
material is applied to real world projects while reinforcing
my own knowledge of design principals. I was treated as an equal
member in the design team and participated in all aspects of
project design including: load calculations, computer modeling,
design and analysis of all building components, and preparation
of final design documents.

While in college I had summer internships with a general
contractor, a small structural firm and a large downtown A/E
firm. I chose Ruby for my career because of the work the company
does, which much more importantly is also the work I do - and
have done since my first day. The bigger 'sexy' firms do some
exciting stuff but it takes an awful lot of people with little
responsibility working on a small portion of a big project.
I know in my short time here I've already done things that other
engineers have gone their entire career without doing.

Ruby gives me exposure to a great variety of work, the
benefits of working for a small company and, most of all, encouragement
to step outside of my comfort zone. The people at Ruby provide
a great safety net, but it is recognized that there is no better
way to gain confidence then to accomplish something that you
werent quite sure you could do.

My favorite project so far has been connection design
for the One Bryant Park high rise building in Manhattan,
NY. Not only did I learn how to balance the three construction
requirements of engineering, fabrication and erection, but I
also was able to work on a signature building in Americas
most prominent city.

At Ruby, I get involved with exciting, high-profile projects
that cover a lot of different aspects of structural engineering
from start to finish. I enjoy visiting the jobsite and
seeing the design take shape, rather than just trying to visualize
it on paper.
